Dolpo is a high-altitude region in the upper part of the Dolpa District of western Nepal.  It is bordering with Tibet and thus has a similar culture to Tibetan. Part of the area lies in Shey Phoksundo National Park. The scattered, agro-pastoral population, known as Dolpo in standard Tibetan in the local dialect, is connected to the rest of Nepal via Jufal airport. The upper Dolpo reflects Tibetan culture. Dolpo is generally adherents of Bon, a religion origins from predate Buddhism but whose modern form is officially accepted as a fifth school of Tibetan Buddhism. The distant region has conserved its Tibetan culture in comparatively pure form, making it eye-catching to Westerners. Dolpa was the location for the 1999 Oscar-nominated film Himalaya and more recently for the German documentary Dolpo Tulku. The abundance of Himalayan wildlife includes rare Snow Leopard, Musk Deer, Himalayan Blue Sheep makes it an Eco-trek destination as well.
