Kanchenjunga (8598m) is the world’s third highest mountain supported by Jannu (Kumbhakarna, 7710m, 25300ft), Chhang Himal and many more snowy peaks. In the trek, we will encounter through Limbu, Rai and Sherpa natives. In October, Limbu and Rai have a festival to celebrate Uvauli.  This festival is celebrations of harvesting the crops from the fields. They also celebrate sowing of the crops in May and bring to their home which is called Udhauli.  The Sherpa celebrates festivals like Lhosar (January/February) and Dumji (June/July). Ghurkhas are recruited from this area.

Wildlife abundance like Blue sheep, Masked Deer, snow leopard and picturesque natural scenery of farmland, rhododendron, green alpine valley are our worth stake. Incredible view of the north face of Kanchenjunga from Pangpema is our precise vision trek. The attractive Tibetan settlement of Ghunsa has sturdy wooden houses, numerous prayer flags, and smiling villagers.

Short Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu, Altitude 1350m.

Day 02: Fly to Biratnagar.

Day 03: Fly to Suketar then trek to Phurmbu, Flight 30 minutes and trek 4-5 hours,  Suketar ‘altitude 1900m and Phurmbu altitude 1800m.

Day 04: Trek to Chirwa   7 hours Altitude 1185m.

Day 05: Trek to Sakathum, Altitude 1660m.

Day 06: Trek to Amjilosa, Altitude 2510m.

Day 07: Trek to Gyapla, Altitude 2750m.

Day 08: Trek to Ghunsa, Altitude 3415m.

Day 09: Rest at Ghunsa- acclimatization, Altitude 3415m.

Day 10: Trek to Khambachen, Altitude 4099m.

Day 11: Trek to Lhonak, Altitude 4785m.

Day 12: Trek to Pangpema North base camp and return to Lhonak, Pangpema North base camp ‘altitude 5200m.

Day 13: Trek to Ghunsa, Altitude 3415m.

Day 14: Trek over Sele la pass camp and Sele, Sele la pass camp ‘altitude 4290m and Sele ‘altitude 4090m.

Day 15: Trek over Mirgin-La Pass, Sinelapache-La Pass to Cheram, Mirgin-La Pass ‘altitude 4750m, Sinelapache-La Pass ‘altitude 4785m to Cheram ‘altitude 3870m.

Day 16: Trek to Tortong 6 hours Altitude 2998m.

Day 17: Trek to Lasia la pass to Yamphudin, Lasia la pass ‘altitude 3550m Yamphudin ‘altitude 1692m.

Day 18: Rest day.

Day 19: Trek to Mamangkhe, Altitude 1786m.

Day 20: Terk to khesewa, Altitude 2150m.

Day 21: Trek to Lalikharka, Altitude 2276m.

Day 22: Trek to Suketar, Altitude 2500m.

Day 23: Fly back to Biratnagar- Kathmandu, Altitude 1350m.

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu, Altitude 1350m.

Our representative will receive you from Tribhuwan International airport and transfer you to the hotel. Gautam holidays will provide you with local Nepali cuisine in a Nepali restaurant as a welcome dinner.

Day 02: Fly to Biratnagar.

Our journey starts here. We will be taking a 30min flight to Biratnagar.

Day 03: Fly to Suketar then trek to Phurmbu, Flight 30 minutes and trek 4-5 hours,  Suketar ‘altitude 1900m and Phurmbu altitude 1800m.

Early morning after breakfast fly to Taplejung & continue trek to Mitlung. The treks through the lesser sections of the Kanchenjunga region pass over fertile valleys with attractive pastures and small villages. We then cross Hangdewa River and walk together with the intense Tamor River. As we gradually head in a northerly route the trail steepens after a few hours before a final descent of 350 meters on a muddy trail to Mitlung. We spend the night there.

Day 04: Trek to Chirwa  7 hours Altitude 1185m.

The track arises and inclines gradually as we make our way towards the village of Sinwa. We continue trekking downhill until we extent Tawa. At Tawa, we ascend to some heights and cross the suspension bridge at Thiwa. We pass attractive rural landscape along the way and touch Chirwa, a lovely Limbu village with few cottages, tea shops etc. We expend the night at Chirwa.

Day 05: Trek to Sakathum, Altitude 1660m.

The trek from Chirwa to Sukathum passes through diverse landscapes such as cardamom fields and thick forests. We trek uphill for some time then incline to the lush green fields below and continue trekking along the Tamar River transitory through a dense forest. It’s both uphill and downhill trek until adventure the Ghunsa River after which we reach Sukathum and spend the night there.

Day 06: Trek to Amjilosa, Altitude 2510m.

Trekking from Sukathum to Amjilosa is interesting.  After passing the suspension bridge exterior Sukathum we enter a thick forest, ascend the vertical trail, descend and cross the river again. We also climb a valley from the bottom and pass by Solima village and descend again to the level of the river. All in all, this day’s marching is rather tough. Therefore, it is logical to be very careful mainly while walking the trail that passes the gorge.  We later follow a tricky trail which goes both uphill and downhill until reaching Amjilosa where we spend the night.

Day 07: Trek to Gyapla, Altitude 2750m.

We begin trekking from the river bank, pass over a thick forest of bamboo, fir, and rhododendrons ultimately reaching a small stone house by the river. We then climb hard voyage a few small channels along the way. Here, we get to appreciate the company of spectacular waterfalls that create from the mountains. After yet another short difficult walk we reach the Tibetan payment to Gyabla.

Day 08: Trek to Ghunsa, Altitude 3415m.

We incline down the river and sign the valley as it slowly opens up before reaching Phale, a Tibetan migrant settlement where it is likely to purchase handicrafts and homemade rugs from locals. After purchasing a few souvenirs we travel over conifer and pine forest and reach the Sherpa village of Ghunsa where we spend the night. This place is known for its hydroelectricity bush and the fact that more than 20 protuberant environmentalists met a tragic end in a helicopter crash.

Day 09: Rest at Ghunsa- acclimatization, Altitude 3415m.

We take care to spend time acclimatizing around Ghunsa before continuing our next day’s trek.  We recommend you to stay energetic even in a rest day as it is better than being idle while on a trekking journey. Therefore, we take a short hike towards the Laspsan La friary through the lush green forest. Come back to Ghunsa by afternoon and relax.

Day 10: Trek to Khambachen, Altitude 4099m.

From Ghunsa we trek further north along the river bank which offerings us with magnificent mountain scenery. We pass through meadows full with attractive wildflowers, rhododendron and pine forests. We cross a bridge at Rampuk Kharka, continue past the waterfall and cross the complicated section of the landslide. After crossing the landslide area we begin to see the remarkable view of Mt. Jannu. More determining and undertaking the tricky mountain trail we lastly arrive at Kambachen and spend the night.

Day 11: Trek to Lhonak, Altitude 4785m.

Today will be another stimulating day and an early start is needed. We trek over rocky fields and large rocks on the hillside along the waterside and arrive at a waterfall. We then cross a bridge to Ramtang monastery. We then come to a victory section which we must pass through at a steady pace before descendant to the river and finally arriving at Lhonak.

Day 12: Trek to Pangpema North base camp and return to Lhonak, Pangpema North base camp ‘altitude 5200m.

We walk along the Kanchenjunga Glacier to spend a night at Pangpema, Kanchenjunga base camp on the north side. We urge you to be alert around the stonier sections as they are prone to landslides. After a tiny while, you reach Pangpema, a flat green base camp.  Climb a little higher and enjoy the magnificence of Jannu, Kanchenjunga and Chang Himal.

Day 13: Trek to Ghunsa, Altitude 3415m.

It’s basically the reverse of our earlier trek. We slant to Ghunsa from Kambachen which means that we get to enjoy the attractive forests along with a background of extraordinary mountain scenery. Overnight at Ghunsa

Day 14: Trek over Sele la pass camp and Sele, Sele la pass camp ‘altitude 4290m and Sele ‘altitude 4090m.

It’s a steep trek upward from Ghunsa to Sele-Le. Upon reaching Sele Le we climb through a dense forest of moss, rhododendron, and juniper. Lunch will be attended in a suitable place with the obtainability of water. We spend the night in Sele Le.

Day 15: Trek over Mirgin-La Pass, Sinelapache-La Pass to Cheram, Mirgin-La Pass ‘altitude 4750m, Sinelapache-La Pass ‘altitude 4785m to Cheram ‘altitude 3870m.

Today after having a breakfast we will be trekking to Mirgin-La Pass in 4750m altitude and Sinelapache in 4785m altitude by observing the snowcapped mountains along with flora and fauna.

Day 16: Trek to Tortong , Altitude 2998m.

As we incline to Tortong we first encounter two trails. One trail is the one we took while descending down from Sele Le. However, we ignore this route and descend further down to the trail alongside the Simbuwa Khola. We enjoy the lush rhododendron forest along the way.

Day 17: Trek to Lasia la pass to Yamphudin, Lasia la pass ‘altitude 3550m Yamphudin ‘altitude 1692m.

Leaving Tortong we will cross the bridge over the Simbuwa Khola and then follow the trail that goes along the left bank of the gorge before ascending above the valley towards Lasiya Bhanjyang. From the top, we will descend down to arrive at the river. We will cross across the river and continue further trekking into a beautiful Sherpa village of Yamphudin.

Day 18: Rest day.

We may be tired of a regular trekking so we will be taking rest today and explore the villages during the day.

Day 19: Trek to Mamangkhe, Altitude 1786m.

Today we will slope to the west side of Kabeli Khola while marching over the less dense forest. We will rise a switchback towards a ridge where there are chortens and prayer flags. We will continue to ascend across the Kabeli Khola to reach the village of Mamangkhe. The village is largely occupied by Limbu tribe community.

Day 20: Terk to Khesewa, Altitude 2150m.

The first part of the trek from Mamangkhe is an ascent through rice terraced fields into a side cannon. From there we will cross the suspension bridge and head towards the village of Phonpe. Here ahead it is an easy effortless trekking through several waterfalls and small streams all the way to Ksesuwa village which is occupied by Limbu and Gurung tribe communities.

Day 21: Trek to Lalikharka, Altitude 2276m.

From Ksesuwa we will follow the trail that has numerous ascents and inclines. We will pass through the villages of Kunjari and Bhanjyang with superb views of Kanchenjunga and Kyabru. We will enter into the Kabeli Khola valley and from there climb through a thick forest filled with rhododendron trees to reach Lali Kharka.

Day 22: Trek to Suketar, Altitude 2500m.

Today is the last day of our trek. Leaving Lalikharka we will trek through rich pastures and brilliant settlements. After numerous ups and downs, we will arrive at Taplejung for our overnight stay.

Day 23: Fly back to Biratnagar- Kathmandu, Altitude 1350m.

Today we will take a sweeping flight from Suketar to Biratnagar and then back to Kathmandu. We will have a final meal together in the evening.
